You must think that I have gone completely bonkers and / or bananas!
Indeed, I have. These recent days I’ve made tons of these quick little sketches, and I’m really enjoying myself, although they do seem to take up a rather big part of my time available. Now that I think of it – these 22 sketches – If they’re about 25 minutes each represent.. 5,5 hours of drawing.. Hmm.. I suppose that’s actually kind of quick for so many sketches, but it’s also time that I ought probably have spent differently thinking about my tight schedule. Okay, let’s forget about that ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway – If I start doing this amount of sketches, I’ll need to post them much more frequently. I don’t have near enough time to talk to you about each one in particular, and the time spent on editing, scanning and posting also becomes a bit too much all at once! That being said, it’s really been fun. Most of these sketches are from requests at “Reddit Gets Drawn” where users basically post their photos for a a lot of bored artists to draw! It’s really fun to look at the different kinds of artwork too. Some are really professional whilst others are really fun and all about “learning”. There’s a lot of experimentation going on too, so if you’re into drawing, go there, and try for yourself !

I try whenever I speak about my drawings online to also include a link to my new “Portfolio of pet pictures, and cat and dog drawings” – And that, I just did! Please go there if you want to see some of my more “finished” pet portraits. They’re mostly in watercolor and ballpoint pen. And if you’re a blogger of art or pets, It would be a real help to get one of those hyper-links from you.

That’s all for now. Have a great Thursday!

Oh, and I mustn’t forget to keep the count! These were my 638th-659th drawings since the 9th September 2014.

I didn’t plan on celebrating it or do anything special, mostly because I haven’t got the time. But for some reason, I’ve made a ton of sketches the last couple of days. Let’s call that a celebration! To be honest – I’ve neglected my free pet-sketches as well as my commissions a little these last few days, and as you can see, most of the above sketches are of humans! It’s been a nice break. The humans I found at reddit or more specifically at “redditgetsdrawn” where people put up their photos for people to draw. I DID manage to do another commission drawing too, however I’m still a bit behind schedule. This is number two out of a total of four that I meant to finish for last weekend – so I better speed it up a little ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway – should you be interested in seeing my other commissioned drawings, please have a look at my “Portfolio of cat, dog and pet-portrait commissions“.. I’m trying to make that site come a little alive so… Tell your friends!

Drawing of a hand in ink, ink and ink

Drawing of a hand in mixed media

Drawing of a hand in mixed mediaHere’s my 623’th drawing since the 9th September 2014. It’s my hand. I’ve drawn my hand tons of times since i started drawing every day, but recently, it’s all been about cats and dogs – so I thought I’d try another hand drawing. Hands are really difficult – especially since I’ve gotten out of the habit of drawing them. I messed up the proportions quite a bit in this one, and while trying my best to fix them I applied the white guache quite handsomely. Since white guache is waterbased, it’s a really bad idea to apply water-based ink on top, because it’ll just turn into a muddy gray.

It looks pretty sinister, but I had fun with drawing this one. I keep hearing more experienced artists arguing against using all-black backgrounds because it gets flat and texture-less, and while I get that point, I also think that it has quite an effect on the spatiality of the hand. Anyway – the drawing wasn’t very planned – each step is pretty much an attempt to conceal an error in the previous step, but I bet I can learn a lot from working in that way.

Step a little back from your screen! It looks nicer from a distance ๐Ÿ˜‰

7 drawings – one of them a commission

I’ve now made 622 drawings since the 9th September 2014 – That’s almost two a day for a year. The last few months have been a bit slower, though. Mainly because I’ve been drawing most days and not every day. That’ll change at some point. I keep saying that, but it’s not going to be for another couple of months.

Anyway – the last one of the drawings you see there, is a commissioned drawing – one of a total of four, that I hope to ship to the USA next week. I’m trying to plan ahead with my pet-commissions, so if you know someone who’d like to get a portrait of their pet, I’d be really happy if you’d show them my portfolio of commissioned cat and dog portraits.

I’m as busy as ever with my studies. I really miss sitting down to make a drawing of whatever i feel like, but the pet portraits is sort of developing into a “thing” now. I’m actually quite happy with the way things are, because it allows me to sit and draw cats and dogs while I’m downscaling my horribly disagreeable Friday night shift slave-work – So I’m not complaining, but I look forward to be able to get back to experimenting some more with drawing while still keeping up with the pet-portraits at some point.
