As you may know, I graduated a week ago, and since then I’ve had a lot more time on my hands than I’m used to – which also means more time for drawing! I haven’t been very active online the last few months – only checking in on my blog to post 10-20 sketches at a time with little commentary, and I haven’t really been following anybody else’s blogs in that time period either. That’s changing now!
I went to Kirk’s “Dumb Sketch Daily” blog and saw that he did a self portrait today – Apparently he and another blogger (who also posted her self-portrait) have decided that the 25th in each month is going to be self-portrait day!
Why not? If everyone makes something that has the same theme every once in a while, it’ll make for an interesting collection, so I’ll try and get on the “each 25’th of the month self-portrait” wagon!
I actually did a self portrait the other day, but for thisย one I decided to bring out our big dressing-room mirror. That way I could sit a little more comfortably while drawing, and also have my whole head in-frame, rather than moving around in order to catch the details in that other little mirror that we have.
I think it turned out pretty decent. Whenever I do self-portrait, I always end up looking a little bored or dangerous.. I think it’s due to looking down on the sketchbook and only “rolling up” my eyes for looking at the mirror, rather than finding a specific pose every time. It was fun to work with a shadow side and a sunlit side of my face, but it might have turned out a bit too dark.
Come see my past self portraits too
This sketch was my 750th since September 9th 2014
Coolness! Congrats on graduation, and I like your sketch. Your idea is great if everyone has a challenge for each day of the month. Laura at Createarteveryday had a draw a bird challenge on the 8th of every month, did you know?
I heard about it, but I never actually drew a bird the 8th! I’ll keep an eye out for everone’s birds as a reminder when the time comes ๐
I really like this self-portrait: it’s expressive and engaging. I think it is the best selfie you have done so far. The idea of doing a regular monthly self-portrait is a really good one: returning to the same, very familiar subject, should be a useful tool for marking your progress.
Thank you very much. I will definitely try not to forget this next month!
Draw a smiley face on the calendar. ๐
Lol – Great idea! Or miniature self-portrait ๐
I didn’t know you graduated already! Huge congratulations. It’s fitting that I featured you today.
Thank you! Yes I suppose it is! Thanks a lot for doing that! ๐
Great expression and I love your vibrant lines! So glad you’ve joined us for #SelfieArt Day! I plan to post the compilation of links on Saturday. And, congratulations on your graduation!
Thank you very much! Looking forward to seeing it on Saturday!
It’s nice to see so much of you! (K)
Gotta use that mirror again next time!
I like how you use crosshatching in your drawings.
Thanks ๐ It’s something i try to get better at!
