I like the leaves….are your paints capable of giving strong colours ? Some makes are stronger than others but sometimes its that beginners keep the paint weaker than they need to. Don’t forget if there is too much paint where you don’t want it you can take a clean brush and some clean water and clean some of the unwanted paint away…this has to be done patiently…some colours stain however and won’t budge.
I don’t know actually – maybe i do dilute the paint a bit too much – I’ll try and experiment with stronger colours next time. As for the quality of the paint, i’m not sure.. It’s not the kind that kids use, bur it’s not the “good” one either, recommended by almost all art suppliers here.. I forgot its name. As of now, I’m not using aquarel paper, and I’m a bit worried about damaging it if i wet it too much. I’ll try the method of “cleaning” off the paint.. Does this work after the paint has dried, and is it possible to give it a “hard” edge? Thanks for your tips!
hard eges from fresh paint mostly onto dry paper. get some watercolour paper it shows the colours of the paint better and gives you an easier paint and a better end product. I get off cuts from a paper merchant which they glue into blocks so that the edges are held tight and the paper does not curl up ( or cockle…technical term). You will be amazed at the difference.
Your watercolours are amazing! No need for false modesty! I like some of the drawings too, although they can be a bit shakey proportions wise. Regardless, your commitment is envious – there’s no way you can’t improve.
Keep going. You’ve got it. Darken the shadow slightly immediately under the leaf edge if you want to increase the 3D effect.
Thanks for your tip! I feel like doing another one with that in mind!

Thanks! I’ll soon be getting back to the watercolours. In the meantime i’ll focus on the proportions.
I adore the leaf series Thomas. They look so lifelike…vibrant & so detailed.

Thankyou! I might do more of them once they start reappearing on the trees 🙂
