First three days – four crappy drawings!

So this is my first post, and i start by posting the first four drawings i have done in the last three days, and as you can see, there is room for improvement!

Yesterdays drawing is of a square in Algiers. (and it’s still based upon a photo that i’ve taken at some point).

I still am not finishing my drawings, although this one is getting closer. I still haven’t done today’s drawing, but let’s hope that it’ll be of a slightly higher standard!

Here’s one i did on the same day as the previous one (10th September) – This is a drawing based on another photo i have taken in Paris. This time it’s of a “Russian Orthodox” wooden church that i really liked. Like the other ones, this drawing is les than halfway finished. I got to a HB pincil and ran out of time – But if put some more time into this one – the shading and all – i’d be ok with the result. For now, i prefer to move on to other things though. Getting the geomety down on paper (although it’s still very far from perfect, or even acceptable) is something that is still really difficult for me.

Second day, and it still looks as if i’m in a hurry. It’s sort of true. This one i drew after a photo i took of the “Sacre Coeur” church in Algiers. It’s a very monumental and scary-looking building, and this one too, i’d like to get back to at some point, when my drawings get a little better. I wanted it to be a pencil-drawing, but while edging up the geomety with a hard pencil, i sort of got lost in the perspective, and in my frustration i decided to finish it off with a black pen rather than continue shading it with the pencil.

So this is the first one i did – Since i am just beginning something completely new, you might think it odd that i already seem so demotivated! The explanation for the quality of this first drawing however, is that i want to do at least one drawing every day even on lazy days, bad days, days when i don’t feel like it or days when i simply do not have the time. An experienced artist do beautiful things even when he’s just quickly sketching something. They samy can’t be said abaout me (yet?) – In addition to all this, i think that it’s a great way to start out, to sort of “break the taboo’s” – this is how bad it gets – now i can only be optimistic about what is to come 😉

By the way, the motif here is a street in Paris. There’s a statue of Sysyphus pushing up the boulder on a steep inclination, while. Some guy seems to be sleeping on the pavement in front of the statue. I sort of saw some strange kind of irony in this when i took the photo – although i feel bad about taking this poor guy’s photo..
Maby i’ll get back to this photo later and draw a version where you can see what’s going on a little better!

  1. The first drawing you did is the best one! Seriously, listen. It has the best composition, the best movement and it the most alive of all the drawings. I could tell it was a scene but not all the details you described but it doesn’t matter. It’s the most appealing image. It feels authentic.

    • Thank you! I really want to draw with this kind of energy and speed, but i feel i must work on the more “precise” drawings in the same time.. honestly, the chaotic stuff is my end goal, but sometimes i want people to see what i try to depict aswell, if you know what i mean!

      • Yes. Plus it’s always good to do classical type drawing intermittently. It trains you and in the end it makes the expressive and abstract drawings better. That’s part of the reason for the two realistic drawings I did of late. I really had to FORCE myself (ugh, reality how boring!lol) but I was so intrigued by the result. I did another and it’s a little addictive this drawing real stuff abd not drawing just emptiobs thing.
