A cat called Tumble drawn in pencil

Pencil drawing of a cat called TumbleHere’s another facebook request! This cat is called Tumble, and for once I drew it in pencil. I’m quite happy with it and I’m going to do some more pencil drawings in the coming days!

And it’s right in the middle of the page. I’ve had a lot of trouble planning out my drawings before, but I think that recently this problem has started to sort itself out without me really making too much effort of it. I think that drawing in ink and ballpoint pen helps with the decision making – once the line is drawn, it doesn’t go anywhere, so perhaps it’s a good tool for learning to be more precise at the first go and avoid going back and correcting too much. It’s not always evident, though, as with Mocha the dog where there wasn’t enough space for the paws..
I really like the effect of changing something after working in the same media for a while. In learning to draw, the process can be very very slow, and it can be hard to notice any improvement comparing from day to day. Sometimes it even appears that it needs to get worse before it gets better. I don’t know if this pencil drawing is really better than my earlier pencil things, but it feels really refreshing to do it after a long run with ballpoint pen. Now I feel like doing more πŸ˜‰
