395 Drawing of a giraffe with a ballpoint pen and watercolors after photo by Steve Boer

Drawing of Giraffe in pen and watercolor

This is my fourth drawing today. They don’t take that long when I do them with this pen, so that might be the reason. I wish I could do this all day every day. Maybe some day.
I got the photo from Steve Boer’s photo blog

While drawing it, I couldn’t help thinking about the “Motivational Giraffe” blog that I’ve come upon often enough while killing time on the net (as if i had a lot of time to kill! )
Instead of giving everyday tips and important life lessons about friendship and self-improvement, my giraffe just sort of stares at you silently, trying to make you think there’s something utterly wrong with what you’re doing. Maybe there is? Maybe you ought to be doing other things? I know i do.. It’s not a very nice giraffe..

    • They’re minuscule. 4×6 inches (or 10×14 cm’s) I’ve got a couple of bigger sketchbooks in the mail. I’m looking forward to getting into those. I think that these sketches take around 30 minutes.. But that’s because they rely mostly on the sketchy ink strokes. When I draw pencil drawings or do complete watercolors it takes around an hour for the same format. And for some reason perspective drawings take me several hours!

      • I’ve got some smaller sketchbooks too, and they’re fun for some things. But it’s good you’ll be branching out, again, trying something new I think is always good. You have nothing to lose, and who knows what to gain. It’s all good.

  1. I follow Motivational Giraffe too. It’s a great blog. I think this is a really lovely painting. You got the elegant lines of the giraffe perfectly and I love the way it emerges from the foliage.
