6 mediocre drawings – will make more of an effort next time :)
Sometimes you just don’t feel it. I’m pretty unsatisfied with the three dog drawings above. It’s a result of being a bit too sleepy and or careless while drawing – which reflects in the end result. The cat in charcoal was an attempt for a commission drawing. I haven’t done a lot of charcoal before, but when someone requested a charcoal portrait of her cat as a commission, I went with it. I think that I’ll start over with a drawing in ballpoint pen, since these work a little better for me π
I don’t have a lot to add – but I hope that I can post something that I’m a little more proud of next time!

Your “mediocre” is better than a great day of mine! Love your technique, love to get an e-mail that you have posted and even if I don’t leave a comment, I rush to see what you have done. You get better and better – once I get moved into my own home I am taking a lesson of “one daily drawing” from you and once again get my pencils to paper. Thank you for the inspiration and the privilege of seeing your beautiful work!

Thank you very much! I’m really glad you like my stuff, and if it can inspire you to do more art, i’d consider it a success π

Sharing your project in public daily is brave. The charcoal works. We all have off days. I wrote about the creative struggle vs .sprezzatura at my other blog Boomer Muse. I’ve added the link here.

Thank you very much for commenting. What a great concept of sprezzatura! I didn’t know about that one, but it really makes sense. Well, except that the few sketches that went wrong here, really ARE bad, there’s nothing conscious about it π

Charcoal takes getting used to but when you do, you find you have a way easier time with shading than with most other mediums. I think you did well!

Thanks a lot π I like that you can just use your fingers to smudge for even shading.. Put being precise with a charcoal stick.. that’s difficult!

I dunno…the charcoal one looked lovely to me…maybe a classic case of ‘in the eye of the beholder?’ π

Maybe it’s one of those π I wish the eyes are better.. the rest of the drawing, I can go with!
