Drawing of a cat called Zoey in ballpoint pen and watercolor
This is Zoey the cat from Island-Cats.com A blog about.. Cats! On an island! Go read it! And thanks to the Island-Cats.com for the request!
I didn’t feel 100% “in the zone” for this one. When I keep thinking about what I ought be doing, some of the stress tends to shine through in the drawing. In this case, I think that the composition sufered a bit. I’m quite happy about the watercolor-touch, but she appears to be floatin mid-air and halfway out of the frame. I would have preferred to just focus on the face on this one I think – or perhaps draw the whole cat with a bit of extra space around it.
I’m also on facebook, google+ and tumblr!
Happy Wednesday everyone!
That was my 457th drawing.
It’s lovely to see Zoey and she is such a beautiful cat. I think you have caught her essence perfectly!

I love the accent of color too…she looks a little “surprised” but maybe she was? I think she came out quite well!

Thanks. She does indeed look surprised. In the photo it’s not so much the case. http://www.island-cats.com/?p=26397 – i tihnk that maybe if only i had drawn the eyes to look slightly up, it would have helped.. I also just noticed that it appears that her paw is coming out of her neck..

excellent use of colour! Gives Zoey depth. Other than the paw – I like the composition.

Thanks! The paw most definitely is a little strange.

Whoa this is super good, may I ask what sketch book are you using? it looks to work very well with watercolors!

Thanks a lot 🙂
It’s a moleskine watercolor sketchbook. I don’t know anything about paper, but it’s the only kind of moleskine that works with watercolor. I haven’t tried many others, but i know that stillman and birns make sketchbooks with really good paper for watercolor aswell. I have one from their “beta” series. My skills really aren’t evolved enough for me to get all obsessive about which kind of sketchbook and paper i use, but i just can’t help it 😉
