197 Portrait of Miles Davis

This portrait ended up pretty jazzy – Maybe I got a little carried away. I think it’s really fun to start a drawing with a really fuzzy approximation with a light H4 pencil – this allows me to use my intuition a bit and just moving the pencil around in a “searching” manner. Then when I am satisfied with the form, I go darker – This fuzzy approach gives a pretty fuzzy drawing (fuzzy being the keyword here) – it might not be all that precise and detailed, but I like how it gets the energy into the drawing.. I’d like to get better at these intuitive drawings.
I’m not as cultured in jazz as I’d like to be be – maybe someone out there has some suggestions? Drawing and listening..
Wonderful energy in this drawing. Your use of line creates a vibration which not only makes the drawing dynamic but is completely in keeping for the subject matter.

Great mark making, energy and composition! Excellent drawing! Thank you for visiting my blog and liking my latest post. I mainly concentrate on photography and painting, but your drawing has made me want to sketch again. Thanks for the inspiration. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
