196 Portrait of John Coltrane
Here‘s the original
I thought I’d try repeating the succes with my Thelonius Monk sketch yesterday, by doing another jazz-hero. It’s not quite as good, but I’m not complaining !

I think this is a superb portrait. I’m really very impressed.

These are not generic faces, they have emotion and individuality. Good job!

I think this is some of your best work. It’s not a dead-on portrait but it doesn’t have to be. This is visually interesting and that’s what makes it good. Looking over some of your pieces, it seems like where you have soft lines in the face, like you do here, you accomplish the most. You should definitely explore this softer style of rendering more. I’ve seen ones where you have harder lines and the portrait doesn’t read as well.
