  1. I also tend to make the eyes too intense when drawing a self-portrait. It’s because we are staring and concentrating so much. In anyone else that would be scary, right?

  2. I agree with you, the self portrait seems a little intense. It is a good portrait. I admire your persistence on the self portrait. It is so interesting to see how each one is so different.

  3. You look like you are going in too dark at the beginning which results in overworking at the end. Try some light guidelines to start with, when you are happy with the layout then start being more definitive. Also, I think the eyes are too high on the head as it looks like you are viewing yourself on the same level, but they would be in this position if you were viewing from below. Hope this helps.

    • Thanks, your comments are very helpful. For this one, i actually had the mirror laying in the couch beside me – so if this can explain the “looking down” effect, that might be it.. I actually start with a h4, and then go directly to the darker tones – I’ll try going through my pencils in the right order from light to dark, so it doesn’t get too dark in the beginning
