126 Portrait after Renoir

I did this really really fast – I have always admired those quick sketches that catch the essentials with very few lines. They’re rough, and it’s almost as if the artist just “attacked” the paper in order to transfer an idea from the mind to the paper.. And then the result is just astoundingly beautiful.

I am so so so far from being there – but i must say that I am really happy with this quick study. There are some things that I didn’t catch that well – and the beard might need some detailing, etc, but i feel that I am approaching the kind of drawing i want to be able to make. Surely, a lot of things could be critiqued.. But hey!

It wasn’t a bad idea to get those charcoal pencils after all. I’ll be doing more of that!

  1. I think this is the best one of all of yours I’ve seen. I’ve not seen them all, by a long shot, but this is a standout IMO. I bought some charcoal recently and haven’t tried it, but man! This makes me wanna get my hands all dirty. hehe. Sometimes I notice in my own work that fast is usually always better. Keeps the left brain quiet and lets the right brain take over.
